KABBANI MOSQUE ASKS MUSLIMS TO DISPLAY "PICTURE" OF PROPHET IN HOMES

(Los Angeles, Calif.-July 28, 1998) The Minaret magazine reported in its July issue (page 11-12) that the Islamic Center of Beverly Hills in Southern California had recently published images of the Prophet Muhammad (SWS) and was asking area Muslims to display them in their homes "to earn the favor of Allah."

The publication noted that it is the consensus of all four Islamic schools of thought that displaying the picture of the Prophet Muhammad (SWS) is forbidden.

While many Islamic organizations protested the depiction of the Prophet of Islam (SWS) at the U.S. Supreme Court, "It is ironic that when a Muslim group distributes a picture of the Prophet, Muslim groups in general are silent," observed The Minaret.

The Islamic Center of Beverly Hills is affiliated with Hisham Kabbani, the controversial Sufi "master" and chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of America. The Center's Internet website is housed on Kabbani's server. The Islamic Center's owner, Mike Mirahmadi, is the brother of Hedieh Mirahmadi, Kabbani's Los Angeles lawyer.

When the Center's recorded information line is called, a voice says, "Assalaamu Alaikum. Thank you in advance for your genereous contribution."
